چکیده

Facilitators1 provides an infrastructure a collection of networked task-independent system programs supporting automated interoperation between distributed heterogeneous software agents. Through a flexible communication model, the Facilitators infrastructure provides a variety of services to heterogeneous software agents based on both request/reply and publish/subscribe protocols, the communication of knowledge about agents’ capabilities and interests, and the semantic translation between different information models. The underlying communication language is based on first-order logic, which supports automated reasoning. The Facilitators infrastructure has been used in several projects requiring interoperation among distributed software applications. This paper describes the interoperation model, architecture, and operation supported by Facilitators. It then discusses the underlying communication language and illustrates automated interoperation through examples. The paper concludes with a discussion of related research and an outline of future directions.

A Knowledge Sharing Approach to Software Interoperation

Getting programs to work together often necessitates extensive work on the part of the users of those programs or their programmers { to learn the characteristics of completed programs and to negotiate communication formats and protocols for programs under development. What's more, the resulting systems are usally very rigid { components often cannot be modi ed or replaced without subsequent ro...

A Bottom-Up Approach to Automating Web Service Discovery, Customization, and Semantic Translation

The ultimate goal for the Web services effort is seamless interoperation among networked devices and programs through the development of distributed computing infrastructure and Web standards. Industry has been fast off the mark with the development of computing infrastructure such as .NET and J2EE, Web service protocols such as SOAP, and a communication-level description language in WSDL. Like...

A Distributed Simulation Framework Supporting CGF on Networked Virtual Environment

This paper shows a distributed simulation framework for tactical training in networked virtual environment. The existing military training simulation systems are mostly full simulated systems operating on single platform. They are to train individual’s operation skill, but don’t support team level tactical training. In order to train team level combat and command skill in dynamic battlefield, t...

UTSAF: A Multi-Agent-Based Software Bridge for Interoperability between Distributed Military and Commercial Gaming Simulation

Rapid advances in consumer electronics have led to the anomaly that consumer off-the-shelf gaming hardware and software provide better interactive graphics than military and other specialized systems costing orders of magnitude more. UTSAF (Unreal Tournament Semi-Automated Force) is bridging software written to take advantage of the power of gaming systems by allowing them to participate in dis...
